The conference’s theme, which is of global importance, will extend well beyond the arena of Italian Studies and will appeal to audiences from various backgrounds and of diverse interests. It will welcome and invite participation from other disciplines, such as geography, sociology, history, political science and world arts and cultures. Moreover, the conference will engage undergraduate students more than ever before through an art contest and exhibit that will celebrate their creativity and reward their artistry. The IGSA committee will select one of the submitted works of art to function as the background of the official conference poster, while the rest will be showcased during the conference. Additionally, prior to the conference, students and faculty will have the opportunity to attend collective reading sessions and movie screenings that will better familiarize them with the material to be discussed by our keynote speakers and presenters. This carefully prepared sequence of events will enable students to become even more invested in and acquainted with the topic, thereby maximizing the possibilities for dialogues with our keynote speakers and panelists.
