Terra e Mare / Land and Sea
UCLA January 13-14, 2017

The 2017 Italian Graduate Conference at UCLA promotes meditations on the social and ecological impact of the sea and land in Italian history, arts, and culture. Land and sea found questions of Mediterranean belonging and Italy's relentless drive toward cultural distinctiveness. At the same time, land and sea designate concerns with the country’s troubled history and natural resources at risk. This conference draws together graduate students and professors around the nuclei of geopolitics, migration, ideology, symbolism, landscape, and ecocriticism.
